Wolverhampton Double Chance (Win or Draw)
Reasoning
Everton vs Wolverhampton Predictions
- Four of Wolves last six matches have featured at least three goals
- Wolves kept their first league clean sheet of the season against West Ham on Saturday
- Everton have lost four of their last six home league games
Everton too inconsistent to trust
Everton have been struggling to get out of second gear lately and if they are not on the ball, they are in danger of suffering a fifth defeat in seven home league games when they entertain Wolves on Wednesday.
A double over Nottingham Forest are all that David Moyes’s side have mustered in their last six matches and they collapsed to a 4-2 home defeat against Brentford on Sunday after they had kept four clean sheets in their previous six outings.
They are having to dig themselves through this sticky patch without some of their key players as Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Nadiaye remain in Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, while the sight of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the treatment room is also a blow.
An additional consideration is that, during a relentless schedule, they have had a day less to recover before Wednesday’s outing, a victory for the Toffees may not be straightforward.
Wolves finally looking positive
While the Merseysiders are having problems finding their groove, there has at least been something to smile about in Wolverhampton.
Wolves earned a pitiful two points from their opening 18 league matches, but they have tripled that tally in the last week after earning a 1-1 draw at Manchester United and then their first league win of the campaign at home to West Ham on Saturday.
They outplayed the Hammers in that 3-0 win and while they are still 12 points behind fourth-from-bottom Forest, they could make another positive step in this one.
Even before that Old Trafford draw, they had been competitive in big away games, losing 2-1 to two own goals at leaders Arsenal and also falling to one-goal defeats at Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Backing the Midlanders on the double chance appeals in this instance and with four of their last six matches featuring at least three goals, correct-score punters are pointed towards a 2-1 away win.
Mane looks one to watch
Those looking for an anytime-goalscorer interest should cast their eyes towards Wolves teenage midfielder Matheus Mane, who has made a big impression after graduating from the Under-21 team.
The Portuguese teenager has taken his chance having started the last three matches and showed no sign of nerves on his debut as he had four efforts on goal against Liverpool at Anfield.
His first goal arrived in the win over West Ham at the weekend and a chance can be taken on his adding to that strike at the Hill Dickinson Stadium..
