PSV Eindhoven are trying to keep on the heels of early season leaders Feyenoord at the top of the Eredivisie. The Rotterdam club currently hold a 5 point advantage after their 1-0 win at PSV last weekend but with so long to go in the season, there is plenty of time for PSV or Ajax to overhaul them.

PSV did respond well to that defeat in midweek at least, as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Roda JC in the cup and their away form this season has been excellent again so they’ll be confident of keeping their 100% record on the road going here. Discounting a penalty shoot-out defeat after a 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid, they haven’t lost an away match for 11 months and have scored 4 goals without reply in their last two away Eredivisie games.

Excelsior are a team that does create chances and score goals though so they are likely to be tested more at the back here. The Rotterdam side have started the new season pretty well with 3 wins from their opening 6 games and they are unbeaten in 3 games coming into this, thanks to a 1-0 cup win at Barendrecht in midweek. They rarely fail to score at home and that has happened in just 4 of their last 25 home league games.

Both teams have scored in 6 of their last 7 Eredivisie home matches and that has been the case whenever PSV have visited Excelsior in recent years, although almost invariably the visitors have won. With PSV still so strong away from home, you’d expect that to be the case again here and judging by the recent history of the fixture there is great value in backing PSV to Win & Both Teams to Score at 13/8.
