Exeter vs Grimsby Predictions

The festive football schedule also brings with it the halfway point of the season and many sides use this marker as a means of evaluating where they are in relation to their expectations at the start of the campaign. Two sides who are perhaps on par with their expectations meet at St James Park this weekend as Exeter City welcome Grimsby Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Grecians go into the match following three consecutive wins over Crewe Alexandra, Oldham Athletic and Yeovil Town, but they will know that their confidence is still fragile after a remarkable fall away in form saw them drop from slugging it out with Lincoln City for top spot to barely holding on to their play-off place. The hosts were among the top scorers in the division prior to that drop in form and although they struggled to find the back of the net when they were not firing, five goals in their last two outings suggests that they are starting to rediscover their offensive output.

Making the long trip to the south coast is a Grimsby Town who are one of the form sides in the division at the moment as they have won four of their previous five outings. Like their hosts, the Mariners have had plenty of difficulty finding the back of the net but their recent improvement in form has coincided with their strikers finding their form and in those same five matches, they have managed to score an impressive 13 times.

After three wins in a row, the bookies are clearly convinced that the hosts are back to their best and they have made them the heavy favourites to claim the win. It is an assessment which we do not agree with, as Grimsby have been excellent recently and should not be underestimated. With this in mind, we are going to use the generous odds on offer to back Grimsby Town to win with the added safety net of the ‘Draw – No Bet’ clause.

If you are looking for something which offers a bit more bang for your buck, then we believe we have got you covered too. Both of these sides have been able to find the back of the net with regularity of late and we believe this is a good indication of a high scoring affair. With this in mind, we think that combining an away win with there to be over 2.5 goals scored represents an excellent opportunity for some decent profit.
