Reason For Exeter City vs Stevenage Predictions

  • Exeter have been undefeated in their last 8 home matches.
  • Exeter have only lost one home league match this season.
  • Stevenage have conceded 2 goals or more in each of their last 3 matches.

Getting back on the horse

After several seasons of near misses, Exeter are hoping that this is the season they finally make it out of League 2 and thus far, the signs are good. City have definitely been one of the more impressive outfits in the division this season and that’s reflected in the standings as they head into the weekend stationed in 4th place with 54 points from 30 matches.

However, there are storm clouds on the horizon as the Grecians go into this match having failed to win their last two matches and have lost ground in the race for the title. The hosts followed up a 3-1 defeat away to Port Vale with a 2-1 defeat away to title rivals Swindon Town. However, home comforts are on offer once again this weekend and they will be hoping that it will be enough to see them return to winning ways.

Stevenage desperate for a win

Stevenage may well have finished just a point short of the play-off places last season but are pulling up no such trees this campaign. Indeed, their performances to date have been utterly dreadful and they find themselves on course for relegation to the National League, coming into this game rock bottom with just 22 points to their name after 31 games.

A surprise 4-0 win at Cambridge a couple of weeks ago had hopes high of a revival but the they have since gone on to lose their last 3 league games and confidence is at rock bottom once again. Stevenage have won just 3 league games all season and with just one of those wins coming on the road, it seems unlikely that tally is going to improve this Saturday.

A one sided affair

One look at the league table tells you everything you need to know about this fixture. On the one hand, you have a side who are challenging for the title, who are excellent on home soil and have an excellent defensive record on home soil. On the other hand, you have a visiting side who seem almost incapable of earning three points, who are abysmal on the road and have failed to score in over half of their away games this season. A home win should be on the cards, but we think there is an opportunity for a little more here so backing Exeter to win to nil looks like a smart move to make.

It is a tip which is also reflected in our correct score prediction. As already discussed, we do not expect Stevenage to find the back of the net. They average just 0.73 on the road whilst Exeter have kept a clean sheet in 64% of their home matches. This, combined with the fact that they have scored an average of 1.57 goals per game at home suggests that backing a 2-0 home win is the way to go.
