Falkirk vs Dundee United Predictions
- Falkirk won three of their four League Cup games (D1).
- Dundee United had a midweek trip to Luxembourg in European qualifying.
- The Bairns won 13 of their 18 home Championship games last season.
Promoted Falkirk can make early statement
Falkirk are back in the Premiership after a title winning campaign last year and they can lay down an early marker by beating Dundee United on Sunday in the opening round of games.
The Terrors enjoyed an impressive season of their own last term as they finished in fourth spot. United will be looking to kick on this term but they have a European campaign to contend with and the fact they had a trip to Luxembourg on Thursday may work against them here.
The Bairns should come into the new season in confident mood after their promotion and they’ve had more time to prepare for this fixture. Falkirk have looked solid in the League Cup, going unbeaten across their four games with three wins, and they’ve made some decent signings over the summer.
This is a tough opener for Falkirk but they can use their momentum to get a win over the line here against a Tangerines side who will also have one eye on next week’s Conference League trip to Rapid Vienna.
Graham can strike against former employers
Falkirk have only conceded one goal in four games this season, admittedly against a lower standard of opposition in the League Cup, and they may be able to shut United out here. The hosts shipped just 13 goals in 18 home games last season and a 2-0 home win has a chance here, as Dundee United conceded multiple goals in four of their final five games last season and they failed to score in four of their final six road losses.
Falkirk moved to sign veteran forward Brian Graham on a free transfer from Partick over the summer and he looks a contender for an anytime effort. Graham had a stint at Tannadice earlier in his career and players do have a habit of raising their levels against former clubs, and he hit an impressive 15 goals in the second tier last season to finish top of the scoring charts.
