Falkirk vs Hamilton Predictions
- Falkirk thrashed League Two Albion Rovers 5-1 in their opening Group E fixture
- Hamilton lost to two League Two opponents in last season’s competition.
- Falkirk’s only defeat in their last seven home League Cup ties was a 4-0 loss to Rangers (Won 5, drawn 1)
Bairns can bring a performance out of Hamilton
Falkirk host Hamilton Academical in Group E of the Scottish League Cup on Saturday.
The Bairns are bidding to make it to the knockout rounds for the second year in succession and got off to a great start by thumping Albion Rovers 5-1.
New boss Paul Sheerin was happy with a good team performance, but Falkirk needed the shock of an early Albion goal to get themselves going.
With little pre-season action prior to the game, it was perhaps excusable, but they cannot afford another slow start against opponents from the division above.
Championship side Hamilton started with a 1-0 away win at League Two Edinburgh City in which they started brightly before fading away.
Manager Brian Rice has added ex-Scunthorpe United midfielder Lewis Spence to his ranks this week but still feels his squad is “light up top”.
Goals are usually a given when the Accies travel in this competition with at least four scored on six of the last ten occasions.
So we’re backing at least three to be scored at Falkirk Stadium, where over 2.5 goals has landed in four of the Bairns’ last five home League Cup games.
Our preference in the correct score market is for a 2-1 home win, however, because the Accies have shown themselves to be prone to a giant-killing in the recent past – going down to Stranraer and Annan Athletic last season.
