Dull Draw on the Cards
The weekend’s action in Portugal gets underway at Estadio Municipal de Famalicao and we could be set for an extremely turgid affair between two sides who find both wins and goals hard to come by.
Belenenses are six places ahead of second bottom Famalicao going into this fixture, however league positions in the lower half of the Primeira Liga count for very little at the moment. There’s just three points between the sides and neither appear to have any kind of solid advantage ahead of this week’s clash.
Famalicao have lost seven of their last eight games including their last four at home and have tasted victory just once in the league since early November. Meanwhile, Belenenses held Porto to a decent 0-0 home stalemate towards the start of the month, but Petit’s charges have won just one of their last nine (D3, L5) while they have picked up just one point from their last four outings on the road.
Neither team can be remotely fancied to claim all three points here as a result and the best angle for punters is to home in on the teams’ misfiring forwards.
All of Belenenses’ eight away trips this term have produced under 2.5 goals, with the Lisbon outfit failing to register in seven of those matches. They have kept things fairly tight on their travels though with just six conceded, so a low scoring contest is the obvious play this Friday with Famalicao failing to net in three of their last four league games and in three of their last four home starts.
Unsurprisingly, then, we’re tipping under 2.5 goals for a three point stake in this one and we’re also tempted to back a goalless stalemate in the correct score market. It’s distinctly possible that both sides will fire a blank here based on the stats we’ve outlined and avoiding defeat is likely to be the priority for both managers.
