Faroe Islands vs Malta Predictions

When Faroe Islands play host to fellow minnows Malta on Tuesday evening they’ll be looking to secure their first points of the campaign. In reality, given who they’ve been chucked in with, this is the hosts only real chance of picking up a win. Malta, who emerged victorious from the reverse fixture, will be hoping to double their points tally.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for Faroe Islands, though that’s not to say that there haven’t been a few moments of promise for Lars Olsen’s men. They scored against both Spain and Romania, while they were the better side when losing out narrowly to Malta back on match-day one.

The fact that they’ve got no points and have now gone four games without scoring will disappoint the hosts, but when they look back at how they fared in the reverse of this fixture, they’ll surely go into Tuesday’s game feeling confident. When the pair met back on match-day one, Malta won by two goals to one in front of a home crowd, though given that it was Faroe Islands who had the better of the game in terms of expected goals, shots and shots on target, it’s not difficult to conclude that Tuesday’s visitors were a tad fortunate to take all three points.

Aside from their narrow win in the reverse of this fixture, Malta have disappointed during qualifying, especially away from home, where they’re yet to find the net.

The visitors have managed to avoid any severe hammerings, as they’ve lost their three away games by scores of 3-0, 2-0 and 1-0, though that’s the only positive. Despite not being on the end of a serious drubbing, they’ve given plenty away, shipping an average of 2.96 expected goals. What’s more, they’ve offered little going forward, scoring zero goals and creating an average of 0.33 expected goals for. At home, Faroe Islands are averaging 0.44 for and 1.54 against.

This won’t be a game that interests the masses, but for those who’re willing to look beyond the fact that it’s a match between two minnows will find a solid betting option in the form of ‘Faroe Islands to Win & Under 2.5 Goals’. Certainly not a selection to go mad on, but given how the reverse fixture panned out, Lars Olsen’s men look a good price to grind out a low-scoring win on their own patch.
