FC Copenhagen vs Trabzonspor Predictions

Danes can’t be trusted to take care of Trabzonspor

FC Copenhagen’s inconsistent form should be a red flag to those considering them firm favourites to win Tuesday’s opening Champions League play-off round leg at home to Trabzonspor.

It has been a mixed bag from Jesse Thorup’s men so far this season with defeats coming against some of the Superliga’s lower lights – AC Horsens, Viborg and most recently Randers. The two wins they have achieved – against the clubs that finished third and fourth last season, AaB and Brondby, could suggest they raise their game against better opposition.

But it is an underwhelming start for the Danish champions and it’s not ideal form to be going into a game of such magnitude on the back of two defeats in their last three. Trabzonspor, by contrast, have won each of their last three games and are yet to concede a goal this season.

Goals could come, despite Visca blow

The Turkish Super Lig champions have been dealt a major blow, however, with the untimely loss of star winger Edin Visca.  The Bosnian, who has already scored three goals in three games this season, has broken a bone in his left arm – and thus will probably miss both legs.

Trabzonspor were an ambitious side on the road last season, scoring in the vast majority of their domestic road trips and keeping the goals to a minimum at the other end. So far this term, goals have flowed too, so it seems worthwhile looking at an overs play.

At least three goals have been scored in FC Copenhagen’s last four games and, although in only one of Trabzonspor’s three games in 2022-23, over 2.5 goals landed in seven of their final 11 competitive away games of last season.

A 2-2 draw is forecast here as Copenhagen must attack at home while Trabzonspor are experts at counter-attacking.
