FC Oss vs Almere City FC Predictions
FC Oss vs Almere City is the standout attraction amongst this Saturday’s Eerste Divisie fixtures, as the sides do battle for 5th place in the table at Frans Heesen Stadion. It is visitors Almere who currently hold that position after back to back 2-1 wins in the past fortnight, but 6th placed Oss will be confident of overhauling Michele Santoni’s side as they seek to record a fourth league victory on the spin.
Club top scorer Huseyin Dogan was at the double in Alkmaar last week as Oss continued their impressive recent run with a cosy 1-3 win over Jong AZ.
It wasn’t plain sailing early doors for Klaas Wels’ side who fell behind to a goal from the prolific Ferdy Druijf, but they turned things around by half time through Bryan Smeets and Dogan who then notched his tenth goal of the season midway through the second period to seal matters.
It was a performance of real quality and authority from Oss who are starting to shape up as serious Play-off contenders after similarly comprehensive victories over FC Eindhoven (2-0) and NEC (1-5) on match day’s 11 and 12, and their winning streak tees them up for a chance to go 5th this weekend when they host Almere City – the team currently occupying that position in the table.
Almere suffered consecutive 1-0 defeats on match day’s 10 and 11 against Twente and Go Ahead Eagles, but have responded well in the last two weeks to see off Helmond Sport and Cambuur, both by a 2-1 scoreline.
Their success over Cambuur at Yanmar Stadion last Friday was a messy affair to say the least, with Yoeri Loen seeing red and both goalkeepers failing to cover themselves in glory, but Timo Plattel’s howler for Cambuur’s equaliser is likely to be forgiven after Torino Hunte bagged a crucial winner for Michele Santoni’s side.
The victory keeps City in the Play-offs for now and just four points behind leaders Sparta Rotterdam, and they’ll be hoping to put a bit of daylight between themselves and the rest this Saturday by continuing their excellent away form this term.
Schapenkoppen have won four of their six matches on the road, a record bettered only by 3rd placed Den Bosch, and that makes their status as outsiders here look a little questionable, when you also consider that Oss have failed to win half of their home games in 2018/19 (W3, D1, L2).
But Oss have been far more convincing of late in terms of their performances and results, and it’s hard to forget the way they pummelled City 5-1 at Frans Heesen Stadion back in February, which should give the hosts a further edge here.
Based on recent matches and last season’s corresponding fixture, Oss are a great price to secure a fourth win on the bounce this Saturday, and being the team in the chasing position, they’re likely to start on the front foot, with City potentially wary of consolidating their 5th place in the standings.
We doubt their success will be as emphatic as last season’s, but the hosts can definitely come out best and we’re forecasting a 2-1 scoreline in their favour.
