FC Volendam vs Twente Predictions

Volendam face off against Twente at Kras Stadion this Friday, with both sides seeking to hit back after suffering heavy defeats on match day 16. Twente lost for the fourth time at home this season as defending champions Jong Ajax ran out 2-5 winners at De Grolsch Veste, whilst Volendam saw their nine match unbeaten sequence broken after going down 5-1 at NEC. Plenty to play for then at Kras Stadion this week, but which team can find an instant riposte?

It’s been a dismal month for Twente who’ve now lost three of their last four Eerste Divisie fixtures, and Marino Pusic’s side find themselves clinging onto 5^th place in the table on the run up to Christmas.

Last week’s 2-5 mauling at the hands of Jong Ajax was their fourth defeat of the campaign at De Grolsch Veste, but it still came as a huge surprise considering Jong had previously lost six of their eight assignments on the road this term and travelled to Enschede having lost three of their last four overall in Eerste Divisie.

With a capacity crowd at least three times bigger than any other team in the division, De Grolsch Veste really should’ve been a fortress for Twente this season, but their frequent slip-ups have cost them dearly in terms of points whilst opponents now head to Enschede knowing the former Dutch champions are there to be got at.

So it may well do Twente good to get back on the road this week considering they’ve amassed an impressive 14 points from their seven away outings to date in 2018/19 – and they take on a Volendam outfit who endured a bit of a reality check against NEC on match day 16.

Palingboeren travelled to Nijmegen unbeaten in their last nine league matches, but were comfortably swept aside 5-1 by Jack De Gier’s team, who showed glimpses of why they were rated as favourites for automatic promotion at the start of the season.

It was the first defeat for Volendam under Caretaker Manager Hans De Koning who has guided them superbly since taking the hotseat at the start of October, but the real test comes now as his side look to show what they’re made of following a comprehensive loss.

Volendam have won four and drawn one of their last five appearances at Kras Stadion, home form which stacks up with the very best teams in Eerste Divisie, and Friday’s encounter has the potential to be a real cracker as the teams square off for the first time since the 2008/09 Eredivisie campaign when Twente ran out 2-1 victors in both fixtures.

There’s very little to separate these teams here with Volendam’s home advantage and strong form at Kras Stadion evening out the fact that Twente possess slightly more quality within their squad, so overall a draw looks the best bet for this match day 17 contest.
