Fenerbahce/Fenerbahce

Reason for tip

Fenerbahce have scored the first goal in their last six matches and led at half-time in five of those contests. The Turkish league leaders have led at HT and FT in their last three games, across which they have scored 12 goals and conceded only two. Austria Vienna, on the other hand, have conceded seven goals in their three away games so far this season.

Fenerbahce 3-0

Reason for tip

Fenerbahce coach Jorge Jesus has a reputation for keeping things tighter in the away leg of continental competitions and is unlikely to tamper with the attacking nature of his side as they attempt to secure a spot in the group stages. His team have scored at least three goals in their last three matches on home turf while Austria Vienna have shipped three times in two of their last three away dates.

  • Austria Vienna have conceded seven goals in their three away games so far this season.

Turkish delight for free-scoring Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce will look to maintain the form that took them top of the Turkish Super Lig on Monday night with their best performance under new boss Jorge Jesus when they face Austria Vienna in Istanbul on Thursday.

The Yellow Canaries destroyed Adana Demirspor 4-2 at Sukru Saracoglu to make it seven points from three league games under the watch of the Portuguese tactician. It was the third domestic game in a row that Fener had scored at least twice in the first half and the sixth game on the bounce that they had opened the scoring.

Jesus, who has a reputation for keeping things tighter in the away leg of continental competitions, is unlikely to tamper with the attacking nature of his side as they attempt to secure a spot in the group stages.

Violets prone to defensive diaster classes

Fenerbahce found things far too easy in Vienna last week when Josh King opened the scoring against the Violets after eight minutes. The Norwegian later picked up an injury and missed Monday’s win, but he could be available to return here.

Austria Vienna have had a couple of defensive disaster classes already this season, including a 3-0 away cup defeat to Salzburg and a 3-2 loss at Rheindorf Altach when they allowed a two-goal lead to slip. It seems worth the extra risk to back the hosts to lead at the break as well as full-time on Thursday, boosting the odds from around 2/5 to better than evens.

A 3-0 victory is the preferred correct score play as Fenerbahce have scored at least three goals in their last three matches on home turf while Austria Vienna have shipped three times in two of their last three away dates.
