Ferencvaros to make light work of Prishtina

Ferencváros host Prishtina in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Qualifying tie on Tuesday night at Groupama Aréna.

The Hungarian champions made it all the way through to the group stage last year where they faced the mighty Barcelona and Juventus. Although Sergei Rebrov’s men collected only one point – from a home draw against Dynamo Kyiv – they were competitive in all six games.

Rebrov has been replaced by ex-Koln and Borussia Dortmund coach Peter Stöger and four regulars from last year’s team have also departed, but the rest of the squad remains intact.

Stöger has overseen three useful friendly wins so far, including a 3-1 victory at Bulgarian champions Ludogorets which showed them to be in fine shape for a long run in the qualifiers.

Prishtina have won two preliminary round games to get here, knocking out the champions of San Marino and Andorra, but this is a massive step up in class for them.

At least they have made it onto the field of play as last year’s 3-0 loss to Lincoln Red Imps in Europa League qualifying was an awarded result after the tie was twice cancelled because of Covid-19 in the Kosovans’ camp.

The Green Eagles will be comfortable winners on Tuesday, as their short price suggests, but there may be a way to bolster the odds by going for Under 2.5 goals in the game.

Stoger was known to be a pragmatist during his time in Germany and he may well prefer his team to settle for a win with a clean sheet instead of pushing for more goals. We are forecasting a ‘job done’ 2-0 scoreline for the hosts on Tuesday.
