Tip Reasoning

  • Forest Green have won four of their last seven League Two matches.
  • Salford City have lost four of their five League Two away games in 2021-22.

Forest Green fancied to annexe points

League Two leaders Forest Green will look to extend their advantage at the top when they face a Salford City with only one away win all season on Saturday.

Rob Edwards’ side have won four of their last seven in the league to move for points clear of Harrogate Town and Swindon. The Green led at Leyton Orient on Tuesday, but conceded an equaliser when two players collided going for the same ball to set-up the hosts for a well-taken counter-attack goal.

They still possess the joint-second best defensive record in the division and, although their scoring rate has dropped below two goals per game for the first time this season, only Harrogate have scored more. The stats Salford, our pre-season pick to be League Two 2021/22 winners, are pretty concerning and don’t point to any sort of turnaround that may even lead to a promotion challenge.

Ammies away form is abysmal

The Ammies are only four points of the playoffs as things stand, but they would be second-bottom based on their away results alone. Gary Bowyer’s side have taken only three points from a possible 15 on their travels and lost on their most-recent trip to 16th-placed Walsall.

Bowyer was without a number of players for that game, but to expect a sudden change in the Ammies away fortunes at the league leaders would be optimistic in the extreme. His team have not been scoring enough goals on their travels for an extended period now, managing to score more than once in just three of their 23 away games last season.

Our expectation is that they will need to score twice to avoid defeat on Saturday and will again come up short. There’s no need to do anything other than back a Forest Green win because, as they proved on Tuesday, one moment of Keystone Cops defending can scupper any win to nil bet.

Three of Salford’s four away defeats this season have been by 2-1 scorelines so we will stick with that formula for the correct score recommendation.
