Lazio are out to get their Serie A campaign back on track, after back to back league defeats. Losses to Napoli and Juventus have left them down in eighth, but they need to turn things around when they head to a struggling Frosinone side on Monday. They did put in a strong display against the champions in their last league outing, which carried into their midweek success in the Coppa Italia. A penalty shootout win over Inter was a morale boost for the Aquile, but can they follow that up with a comfortable win?

Frosinone certainly don’t seem like difficult opponents right now, given that they’re on the fast track to Serie B. They come into this clash second from bottom, picking up fewer points per game than any other side in the division. They’ve also got the league’s worst home record, so it’s no surprise that their push for survival isn’t going so well. While they did produce a shock 4-0 win at Bologna last time out, that was more a result of the Rossoblu’s failings rather than Frosione turning a corner.

The visitors are the only Italian side who are still fighting on three fronts. Juventus had their treble dreams ended in midweek, while defeats for Napoli and Roma opened things up for Lazio in the Coppa Italia. They are heading towards a big semi-final clash with Milan, with the winner of that expected to scoop up the cup. Their hopes of staying in three competitions aren’t great, with Sevilla looming in the Europa League. However, the main issue for the Aquile is that they get into fourth place this term and finally land a Champions League spot.

Their away form doesn’t scream top four, as they’ve won just 40% of their away trips. However, their results have seen them lose at four sides directly above them, going unbeaten against all of the sides below them. The Aquile have won at four of the bottom five, while they secured a 1-0 win over Frosinone earlier this term. However, that 1-0 win was the latest narrow margin for them, with only three goals scored in their last three head to head clashes – all of which have been scored by Lazio.

We expect the favourites to claim another win, but their away matches have been quite low scoring. They’ve seen fewer than three goals in 70% of their trips, while 90% have seen fewer than four goals. Frosinone have also seen fewer than four goals in a large majority of their home games, including 60% of their home defeats. With that in mind, Lazio to win and under 3.5 goals is our tip here.
