Out-of-form outfits meet in crucial clash

With Genoa on a run of 24 Serie A matches without a win and sitting eight points adrift of safety, it’s beginning to look like it’s now or never if Alexander Blessin’s team are to make a play for survival. Genoa have, however, drawn each of their last five league games, and seven of their last nine, which have including creditable stalemates with Inter, Atalanta, and Roma.

Genoa may not get too many better opportunities to grab a win than that presented to them on Sunday. Empoli have gone 10 games without tasting victory in Serie A themselves, although they were unfortunate to go down 3-2 at home to Juventus last time out.

Empoli and Genoa have hardly suffered from the same issues this season; while the hosts have only scored three goals in their last nine league matches, Empoli have scored 13 times in their winless sequence, while shipping 24 at the other end.

Draw looks to offer value

Given that Genoa have drawn five matches in a row since Blessin took charge, and considering that these two outfits drew 2-2 back in November when Empoli were in the midst of a much better run of form, the draw looks to offer value again here.

Meanwhile, Empoli have only failed to score in two of their last 10 outings, so a 1-1 stalemate looks to be a decent correct score play.
