Genoa vs Palermo Predictions
Can Genoa build on their victory over Fiorentina on Thursday night and push up the table? Winning that game in hand moved the hosts up to 10th place, just five points shy of the top six in the table. They have an excellent opportunity to push on up the table with an easy looking home match coming up on Sunday night.
Genoa host Palermo, who are the bottom side in Serie A heading towards the winter break. They’ve been awful so far, and nothing they’ve done has arrested their slide towards Serie B. The Rosanero have changed managers eight times in 2016, and they’re about to wrap up the year propping up the rest of the top flight.
Palermo have picked up 100% of their dismal points total on the road so far this season. However, they’ll have a tough time adding to that here. They face a Genoa side who are unbeaten at their own ground this term, while the Rosanero have lost nine straight league games. There’s a very clear gulf between these two, one that looks even bigger than the 10 league places which separate them. Going by current form, the Rossoblu should have no problem taking maximum points from their final home game of 2016.
Genoa have won three of their last four at home, those victories include matches against Fiorentina, Juventus and AC Milan. Those were all big wins, matches which they’d have been expected to struggle in. However, they hammered both Juve and AC, putting three goals past each of them. So, just what kind of damage could they do against a Palermo side who concede 1.94 goals per game this season?
Genoa concede once every two games on average at the Luigi Ferraris, while they average two points per game at their own ground. The Rosanero take just 0.38 per match this season. They’re clearly not good enough to cause the Rossoblu much trouble, plus the visitors are far too open at the back. They face 15 shots per outing, while they create about half that number of chances going forward. The hosts are clinical, hitting the back of the net from 12% of their chances.
While the home side are short odds, coming in at 4/7 with bet365, we think they’re worth backing on Sunday night. Looking at the strength of the two sides and their form coming in, we can only see one winner in this clash. That’s why we’re tipping the favourites to come out on top, because Palermo just aren’t good enough to compete here.
