Goal-shy Verona face more disappointment

Verona started the Serie A season in style, winning their opening two games against Empoli and Roma, but things have quickly turned into a disaster.

Marco Baroni’s side have failed to win any of their subsequent nine league matches, taking only two points from 0-0 draws with Bologna and Torino in that run.

That leaves Verona third from bottom and in the relegation zone and in desperate need of a mood lift.

However, with only four goals scored during that nine-game winless sequence, it is hard to see a change in luck forthcoming.

Genoa going well on home soil

Genoa may only be three points better off in the Italian top-flight but they have been pretty reliable at home, where they have lost only twice in five outings.

Alberto Gilardino’s men have drawn 2-2 with Napoli, recorded an emphatic 4-1 win over Roma and saw off Salernitana 1-0 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium this season.

So home advantage could prove key for them against a Verona side that have lost four of their last five away league games.

With only three goals scored in six away games, the visitors may struggle to make a breakthrough and, in what could be a nervy contest between two bottom-half teams, Genoa may have to settle for a 1-0 win.
