Georgia vs Moldova Predictions
Georgia look like a massively improved side at the moment. They managed to get a rare point in qualifying with a 1-1 draw in Wales, but even before that they looked respectable in narrow defeats to Austria and Republic of Ireland.
This all looks to stem from the confidence they gained from an incredible 1-0 win over Spain before Euro 2016 began. This is still their only win in the last ten matches, but what a win for it to be.
At home Georgia generally perform fairly well too. They have won four of their last ten home games and drawn one of them. Their defeats include narrow losses to the likes of Republic of Ireland, Germany, Ukraine, and Austria, so they are by no means pushovers.
This won’t come as good news to Moldova, who come into this match having lost all three of their qualifying games so far. Wales kicked the campaign off with a 4-0 thrashing of them and then Serbia won 3-0 before a 3-1 loss to Republic of Ireland as well.
Moldova have now lost five in a row since their 1-0 win over Andorra. That away victory is their only win in their last 24 matches as well, and they have lost 18 of them. Away from home they have lost six of their last eight, with a draw and a win coming against Malta and Andorra respectively.
The ball lies firmly in Georgia’s court for this one, and the bookmakers’ odds reflect that. There is value to be had here though. Neither of these teams are particularly high scoring sides, and despite their minnow status Moldova generally avoid hammerings even away from home.
Georgia have a very good back line as well, and they shouldn’t have much of a problem dealing with Moldova’s limited attacking threat. They have kept a clean sheet in three of their last seven matches at home, with most of those matches being against better opposition than Moldova.
Moldova have failed to score in nine of their last 15 on the road as well, so this should be a relatively low scoring match. Backing Under 2.5 Goals and Both Teams Not to Score at 5/6 looks a good value bet, and I’m going for that along with a 1-0 win for Georgia at 15/4.
