Georgia vs Sweden Predictions

  • Georgia have lost five of their last six home qualifiers and Nations League games.
  • Sweden have won 11 of their last 14 internationals.
  • Sweden have recalled Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but have several key defenders missing this month.

Sweden must win to make Spain sweat

Had it not been for their loss away to Greece in September, Sweden could have secured top spot in Group B with a win in Georgia this week that would relegate Spain to the playoffs. As it is, Janne Andersson’s men need four points from their final two matches – the second of which is against the Spaniards in Seville.

The first part of that scenario is no given, particularly as Sweden have won only one of their last seven away games, but Georgia are a lesser force than all of those previous opponents and have achieved better results on the road than in front of their own fans.

The biggest concern for Andersson will be to construct a solid defence with the players he has. Filip Helander, Marcus Danielson and Carl Starfelt are all missing at the same time and Pontus Jansson has refused to come out of international retirement. That leaves Victor Lindelöf, who has been through the mill in a struggling Manchester United side, to form a central partnership with Bielefeld’s Joakim Nilsson.

Zlatan recall could make the difference

The recall of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, perfectly timed for the business end of qualifying, gives Sweden an exciting boost up front and his combination with Alexander Isak should guarantee chances and goals.

Blågult have enough experience and talent to get the win, but don’t expect a landslide victory because Georgia are well drilled in frustrating superior opponents. side have kept four clean sheets in their last ten home games, averaging less than a goal per game against and have not conceded more than twice in a game during that spell.

That’s why we are sticking with a narrow Sweden win prediction and recommending a 1-0 correct score play in this must-win match for the visitors.
