      Getafe vs Ajax Predictions

      • Over 2.5 goals were registered in 73% of Ajax league games this season.
      • Ajax scored two or more goals in all of their Euoropean away games so far this term.
      • Getafe scored at least twice in four of their last six home games.
      • Getafe lost just three of their 15 home fixtures in all competitions so far this season.

      Getafe continue to shine

La Liga high-fliers Getafe meet Dutch giants Ajax in Spain in one of the most compelling looking Europa League Round of 32 first leg match-ups at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Thursday.

Getafe have enjoyed a sparkling campaign both domestically and on the continent so far this term, and alongside securing a spot in the knockout phase of the Europa League, Los Azulones have battled their way to 3rd place in La Liga and into Champions League qualification contention.

In contrast, last season’s beaten semi finalists Ajax were dumped out of this year’s Champions League at the Group Stage in frustrating fashion, and while they continue to set the pace in the Netherlands, de Godenzonen’s demotion to the Europa League came as a huge disappointment.

However, the Champions League’s loss is certainly the Europa League’s gain, and Ajax remain on of the continent’s most exciting teams to watch.

      Ajax guarantee goals

Since the end of October, a staging 74 goals rattled the net in the 18 fixtures Ajax have contested in all competitions – a total that breaks down to an eye-watering average of 4.11 goals per 90 minutes.

Whenever Ajax play, penalty area thrills and spills come with the ticket, and over 2.5 goals were registered in a meaty 73% of Ajax’s Eredivisie matches so far this term, and in 10 of the last 17 games they’ve played in European competitions.

With Hakim Ziyech, Dusan Tadic, Donny van de Beek and Quincy Promes all maintaining hugely productive high standards, Ajax have an attacking armoury filled with goal-threating talent, and we expect that to be evident again in their meeting with Getafe this week.

Getafe are an extremely tough nut to crack however, and the Los Azulones have the talent at their disposal to go toe-to-toe with Ajax this week. Just three out of the 15 teams that visited the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez left with a win so far this season, with big-hitting Barcelona and Real Madrid among their number.

Getafe’s attacking output has also taken a noticeable jump in recent weeks, and Los Azulones scored two or more goals in four of their last six games on their own patch, with Jorge Molina and Jaime Mata both excelling individually.

      Goals expected in Spain

With so much attacking talent on show, Thursday’s first leg between Getafe and Ajax has all the makings of a thrilling contest, and we expect that to be reflected in the final scoreline.

Having evaluated the aforementioned factors, we think the over 2.5 goals market holds value for Thursday’s game, while our correct score prediction settles on a 2-2 draw.

Ajax found the net at least twice in 100% of their European away games before the turn of the year and averaged 2.7 goals per 90 minutes on the road overall across their last 11 matches outside Amsterdam, while Getafe are averaging 2.1 goals per game at home since the start of December. We expect both averages to be maintained come the final whistle at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Thursday.
