The Republic of Ireland travel to Gibraltar on Monday in a dead-rubber clash as neither side can qualify for Euro 2024.

Gibraltar have lost all five of their qualifiers and haven’t even managed to score a goal in Group B, while Ireland’s only points have came in a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture.

Ireland boss Stephen Kenny is widely expected to leave his post when his contract expires after their final two qualifiers, but the visitors should be able to win here in what looks certain to be one of his final games in charge.

Win and a clean sheet for Ireland

The handicap and Ireland team goals markets don’t offer a great deal of appeal here as Gibraltar haven’t conceded more than three goals in any of their last 12 home games, despite coming up against France and Greece during that run.

One selection that does stand out, even at a fairly short price, is an Ireland win to nil as Gibraltar look toothless in attack. The hosts are yet to score in qualifying and they have gone seven games without scoring across all competitions.

Ireland won the first meeting 3-0 and a repeat result is the correct score prediction for Monday’s game. Gibraltar haven’t taken a heavy beating at home since a 7-0 defeat to the Netherlands in March 2021, but they have lost eight of their 12 home fixtures since then and have conceded exactly three goals in five of those.

Luton’s Chiedozie Ogbene was one of the few Ireland players who managed to impress in Friday’s 2-0 defeat to Greece, or at least he looked the most dangerous attacking threat at times, and he could be a contender for an anytime goal against minnows Gibraltar.
