Girona vs Espanyol Predictions
- Girona have won three of their last five league games, including two of their last three at home
- Espanyol have lost five of their six away La Liga games this season
- Cristhian Stuani has scored in his last two of his last three home appearances and goes up against his former club
Girona are back on track
Girona are going in the right direction again and can see off a Espanyol in Saturday’s Catalonian derby at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi. Michel’s men won 1-0 at Getafe before the international break and sit comfortably in mid-table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
This season was always going to be tough after the departures of Savinho and Artem Dovbyk, but Girona have started to find a new identity that should keep them in the upper reaches of La Liga.
That cannot be said of Espanyol, who are mired in the bottom three with 10 points from 12 games. Manolo Gonzalez’s side were beaten 3-1 by city rivals Barcelona last time out, although they were quite good in the second half.
Parakeets can get flustered by the press
Still, they lack a killer touch up front at this level and that could cost them in a clash against a Girona side that willingly open the game up in search of goals. Girona are also one of the stronger pressing teams in La Liga and that type of opponent has regularly beaten Espanyol this season.
The Parakeets lost 4-1 to Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao and were on course for a savage beating when Barca went 3-0 up after 31 minutes last time out. Hansi Flick’s team eased off, but Girona likely won’t if they scent blood on Saturday.
Back Girona to win with some confidence because Espanyol simply don’t have enough quality around to dig out a result.
