      Grenoble vs Strasbourg Predictions

Strasbourg probably didn’t expect to be this high up the table after last year’s 15th place finish but the Alsatians currently sit 6th in Ligue 1, just four points behind footballing royalty like Saint-Étienne and Lyon. Strasbourg have got there on merit though and are currently on a run of three consecutive wins. They made quick work of Nice (2-0) and Lyon (2-1) before edging past a steely Toulouse side at the weekend and the morale at the club is understandably sky high.

They have scored 15 goals in their last eight matches but have kept just the one clean sheet in that time which is rather worrying. They have done well to spread out the responsibilities though with just one player on more than four league goals this season. Lebo Mothiba remains Strasbourg’s top scorer this season despite a large spell injured but due to the quality flowing through this side, they have managed to keep up the positive performances even in the absence of Mothiba with everyone pitching in with goals. Due to their success in the league and Coupe de Ligue, the Coupe de France has probably few quite far down the pecking order for Strasbourg but they will still be hoping to make the most of their 700 mile round trip.

Grenoble are Ligue 2’s new boys this season after they were promoted from the Championnat National in 2018 but it’s hard to tell as they have coped so well in the jump in quality. Grenoble currently sit 7th in the league, just one point away from the play-off places and are firmly setting their target on promotion, which would make it their third in three years after they were relegated to the fifth division of French football in 2011 following bankruptcy.

The team have hit a bit of a snag recently though with no wins in any of their last four games. This comes directly after a fantastic run which saw them win eight of their previous twelve matches. They narrowly lost to promotion rivals Paris 1-0 but the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of mid-table Auxerre was extremely damaging to the team’s confidence. They managed to get a draw at the weekend but this just extended their goalless record to three games. They have also conceded five goals in their last three games which doesn’t make great reading for their fans ahead of this match.

These teams last met in the Coupe de France quarter finals in February. Strasbourg ran out 3-0 winners away from home and with the Alsatians on such a good run, we’re backing a similar result here. Strasbourg have lost just one of their last eight matches on the road and with Grenoble winning just one of their last five home games, the visitors look the more likely to win here. Grenoble haven’t scored in their last three matches and with Strasbourg scoring six in their last three games, we’re going to back the Ligue 1 side to win 3-0.
