Groningen vs PEC Zwolle Predictions

Groningen to leave the ‘Blue Fingers’ out in the cold

Groningen have not pulled up any trees in this Eredivisie campaign as they languish in mid-table just seven points above the bottom-three. However, they are unbeaten in seven of their last eight games with three victories to nil therein.

Highlighting the improvement of Groningen is the fact that three of their four league wins across the season came in their last five Eredivisie fixtures (D1, L1). With a 2-0 victory against European participants AZ Alkmaar therein, this should be a much easier task on paper.

Zwolle’s away misery to continue

The visitors are now the only Eredivisie side yet to pick up a single point away from home this term (L7) while conceding a shocking 2.7 goals per-match axcross their away league games. As such, another miserable evening for Dick Schreuder’s men looks likely.

Visiting manager Schreuder has faced Groningen boss Danny Buijs on four prior occasions but is yet to win a game (D1, L3). In fact, Schreuder’s side on the day failed to score in each of the last three H2Hs.

All signs point to another flat performance from Zwolle here. Given the overwhelming evidence of how poor the visitors have been, the odds for a home win look like great value. I am backing Groningen to win by a 2-0 scoreline, just as they did in three of the last six home league H2Hs.
