Switzerland vs Colombia Predictions
- Colombia are on a six-game unbeaten run, with five wins
- Los Cafeteros have conceded just one World Cup goal
- Switzerland have conceded in three of their four games
Colombia can send Switzerland home
Colombia and Switzerland meet in the last 16 of the World Cup at BC Place in Vancouver on Tuesday and the South American side will fancy their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.
Switzerland were handed a kind draw in the group stages and failed to really impress. The Swiss were held by Qatar and were fortunate to beat co-hosts Canada, with their best performance a 4-1 win over Bosnia.
Murat Yakin’s side were second best for large periods in the first half in their last 32 win over Algeria before raising their levels in the second period, and Colombia are a level above the teams they have faced so far.
Los Cafeteros finished ahead of Portugal in the group stages and have conceded just one goal so far, against Uzbekistan in their opener.
Colombia beat Ghana 1-0 in their first knockout tie and could have won by a far bigger margin. A similar level of performance should be enough to overcome Switzerland in 90 minutes.
Los Cafeteros can shut out the Swiss
Colombia have gone three games without conceding and they didn’t face a single shot on target in their win over the Black Stars.
Los Cafeteros also limited Portugal’s star-studded attack to just two shots on target in the group stages, and they look capable of beating Switzerland without conceding.
Colombia have been creating plenty of chances but they have been a little wasteful with their finishing. The South Americans had 24 attempts against Portugal but had to settle for a stalemate, while they had 20 shots with eight on target against Ghana but only scored one goal.
Switzerland have conceded in five of their last six games but they’ve only conceded more than one goal in one of their last 14 games, so a 1-0 Colombia win looks a reasonable correct score prediction.
Luis Suarez should start for Colombia after replacing the injured Jhon Cordoba in the early stages of the win over Ghana. Suarez is yet to score at the World Cup but hit 28 goals in 32 league games for Sporting CP last season and he looks a strong contender for a goal.
