Guarani Asuncion vs San Jose Predictions
- Guarani have won their last 2 games without conceding a goal.
- Guarani have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches, as well as in 3 of their last 4 Copa Libertadores home games.
- San Jose have lost 4 of their last 6 games, conceding an average of 3.25 goals a game over said defeats.
- San Jose have lost their last 10 Copa Libertadores away games, conceding an average of 3.9 goals a game and scoring just twice in the process.
Guarani have done the hard part
Whilst they are clearly a superior side to San Jose on paper, Guarani certainly weren’t fancied as favourites in the first leg of this tie but managed to come away from it with a 1-0 win that leaves them in the driving seat. Indeed, with the game played in energy sapping conditions some 3,700 metres above sea level, the Paraguayans were expected to struggle heavily but passed the test with flying colours.
Now on home soil and in the lead, it’s almost unimaginable that Guarani will fail to book their passage to the next round. Having won their last two games without even so much as conceding a goal, the hosts come into Wednesday’s game with momentum behind them and will be looking to put in a professional performance to get the job done
San Jose look to have missed their chance
Meanwhile, San Jose make this trip to the Paraguayan capital kicking themselves that they didn’t do more in the first leg. With altitude on their side, establishing an advantage to bring into this second leg was simply crucial to their chances of causing an upset and having failed to do so, they now face a hugely difficult task.
Indeed, San Jose’s prospects now look very bleak and with their altitude advantage no longer in play, it’s hard to see them competing with Guarani. The visitors have a truly awful away record in the Libertadores, losing their last 10 trips in it and having conceded an average of 3.9 goals a game and scored just twice over said run, Wednesday night could be a long one for the visitors.
A comfortable home win is expected
Ultimately, it should be an easy night for Guarani and it’d be a huge surprise if they slip up from this point. They’ve already got the better of San Jose with all factors pointing against them and now in a more favourable scenario, we think they’ll be able to exert their superior quality successfully.
All things considered, backing Guarani on the -2 handicap looks a good way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do. San Jose are simply horrendous on the road in this competition and having also lost 4 of their last 6 games, that’s not likely to change on Wednesday, with a 3-0 margin of home victory on the cards.
