Haiti vs Mexico Predictions
When they came in at half-time two goals down against Canada, it looked as though Haiti’s Gold Cup was over, though Marc Collat’s men were having none of that. Thanks to an excellent second-half performance that saw them score three times, the Haitians are in the semi-finals. After such an impressive effort, the minnows may even fancy themselves to upset the tournament favourites, who didn’t exactly have it all their own way last time out.
It must be said that Haiti have been excellent at this tournament; they’ve showed no fear, have played an attacking game and have entertained their fans by scoring plenty of goals. Not only have they played a brand of football that has been easy on the eye, but they’ve shown tremendous character, coming from behind to win against both Costa Rica and Canada.
They may have found themselves down by two goals last time out, though on the overall balance of play, Haiti were deserved winners, as they ended the game having created 2.58 expected goals for and having conceded only 1.39.
Mexico also created more than their opponents last time out, as they created 1.98 expected goals for and conceded 1.2 during their 1-1 draw with Costa Rica.
Right from the start of the tournament, Mexico have appeared to be the strongest side, though their limitations were exposed last time out. Going forward, Gerard Martino’s men continued to perform well, as they created plenty of chances, though they did not look secure at the back. Costa Rica certainly weren’t without opportunities, especially on the break, so it’s easy to see a fast, fearless and direct Haitian forward-line causing the tournament favourites, who’re now into 4/5 to get their hands on the prize, plenty of problems.
From a betting point of view, there both ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ and ‘Both Teams to Score’ make plenty of appeal. Goals have been easy to come by for both Mexico and Haiti at this tournament, as they’ve notched no less than 23 between them, while they’ve both made light work of creating chances, as averages of 2.51 expected goals for and 3.59 suggest.
If we add in the fact that neither thrived from a defensive point of view last time out, then it becomes very easy to conclude that the chances of a high-scoring encounter are somewhat greater than the early prices suggest.
