Halifax Town vs Grimsby Betting Tips & Predictions

Here we have two teams coming into the FA Trophy Final after vastly differing seasons. Halifax Town failed to win their final match of the season in the Conference National League and were subsequently relegated, whilst Grimbsy are facing their second trip to Wembley in a week after winning promotion to the Football League last Sunday.

The damage was done a while ago for Halifax Town. They managed to remain unbeaten for their final three matches of the league season but a final day draw at home to Macclesfield saw them finish a point behind Guiseley and just inside the relegation zone. They can point back to the start of the season and a run in April where they lost five out of six league games as where it was all lost.

Grimsby Town have made the playoffs for the past four years running but haven’t managed to win any of them, resulting in a six year hiatus from the Football League. Their wait was finally over last weekend though as they beat Forest Green Rovers 3-1 at Wembley to win promotion to League Two. This came after finishing 4th in the Conference National and being taken to extra time in the playoff semi finals against Braintree.

Overall their form isn’t what you would expect of promotion winners. They have lost four of their last eight in all competitions and only won three times, but they are sure to be on cloud nine after such a successful season. They also have the added advantage of recent experience on the Wembley pitch.

The difference in mentality could play a big role in this clash. The form of both sides is fairly similar for Grimsby Town will be flying high after securing a return to professional football whilst Halifax Town will still be coming to terms with a return to the Conference North after their promising looking three year stay in the National League.

I’m expecting Grimsby to get the victory because of this, and odds of 8/11 look good value to me considering the gulf between the two teams. I’m going for a 2-1 correct score prediction at 17/2 as well.
