Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

It took a stoppage-time winner to break a 2-2 draw between these clubs in Chesterfield earlier this season and another close contest can be expected.  Chesterfield fought back to draw their last away game at Oldham, who are level on points with Halifax, 2-2 while the Shaymen have scored exactly two goals in four of their last six league matches.

Halifax have the form to delay Spireites’ celebrations

Halifax can deny National League leaders Chesterfield the three points that would clinch them the title in what promises to be an entertaining contest between two clubs with a recent rivalry.

The Spireites knocked the Shaymen out of the end-of-season play-offs two seasons ago, despite finishing 10 points behind the West Yorkshire side. Clashes between the two tend to be closely fought and this season’s skirmish at Chesterfield’s place finished 3-2 to the hosts with both sides reduced to 10 men before the final whistle.

Both teams are in good form with Halifax maybe even shaping up better for this clash after a run of six wins in seven.

Chesterfield have wobbled away from home

That said, Paul Cook’s side have been the class outfit in the division since August, racking up 92 points from 39 games to take them to the brink of sealing automatic promotion back to the Football League.

But Chesterfield have suffered a dip in their away results of late, failing to win three of their last four – which strengthens the case for Halifax to get something from the game.  The Spireites 4-3 defeat at third-placed Bromley last month was certainly excusable, but Cook’s side lost 4-1 at second-bottom Dorking Wanderers at the start of March before fighting back from 2-0 draw for a draw at Oldham.

The Latics are a similar side to Halifax in many ways, so another high-scoring draw could be possible here – particularly as it took a stoppage-time winner to break a 2-2 stalemate in the season’s first clash of the clubs.
