Tip Reasoning

  • Halifax are unbeaten in ten home matches
  • Chesterfield have lost three successive away fixtures
  • No team picked up more home points or wins in the National League than Halifax

Halifax keeping things tight

Halifax have proved a tough opposition to beat this season, particularly at The Shay where they have lost just three times, culminating in a run of eight wins and two draws in the last ten.

Pete Wild’s side in fact collected more home points than any other team in the National League, 53 of an available 66, including three in a 2-0 win over Chesterfield last month.

The Shaymen also had the best defensive record in the division, conceding just 35 times in 44 fixtures, while they have kept seven clean sheets in their last 10 in West Yorkshire.

All is not well at Chesterfield, who stumbled into the play-offs by winning just two of their final ten, surrendering a chance of a much higher finish in the process.

Paul Cook’s side lost three away games in a row during that run, including the loss at Halifax, while they have failed to beat a team in the top half of the table on the road since December.

The Spireites also have a pretty poor record in the play-offs, winning them just once in four attempts and failing to reach the final on the last two occasions.

I predict that Halifax will qualify for the semi-finals with a nervy and tight win in this fixture, selecting 2-1 as a correct score prediction.
