Halmstad vs Degerfors Predictions
It was a poor weekend for Halmstad, with both of their main automatic promotion rivals winning. They will be targeting an immediate response on Tuesday when they take on Degerfors, who sit halfway down the Swedish Superettan and are having a pretty unremarkable season overall.
Halmstad are now 6 points behind 2nd placed Helsingborgs in the race for promotion. 3rd would only be good enough for a crack at the play-offs so they will be determined to keep up the pressure on the top sides. They only claimed 1 point from their final 2 games before the summer break and failed to win either of their friendlies in recent weeks, so confidence in their camp will have taken a bit of a knock.
However they do have a 57% home win ratio this term to fall back on and that should give them confidence up against mid-table opponents on their own patch. You have to go back to the end of May for their last clean sheet though, so they may need to net at least twice if they are going to collect maximum points from this one.
Some dodgy Halmstad defending will offer confidence to the visitors. Degerfors find themselves right in the middle of the division with 6 points separating them from their opponents in 3rd, while they are 6 points above the highest of the relegation play-off places. Therefore their season could still go in either direction and certainly a surprise result here would give them a major boost.
They’ve been decent on the road, averaging 1.5 points per game on their travels, which is better than they’ve managed at home. That suggests they are more than capable of being competitive in this one, although their overall form isn’t great either with just 1 win from their last 5 matches, including a friendly against Superettan opposition.
Overall, this game certainly promises to deliver goals. All of Halmstad’s last 8 matches have seen both teams score, including those two mid-season friendlies. Their inability to keep clean sheets is really hampering their promotion push with the opposition scoring in 80% of their league games this term.
Degerfors meanwhile have just a 13% clean sheet ratio so a home goal does seem pretty inevitable here. However Degerfors have an outstanding record in that they’ve scored in 88% of their away games this term, while 4 of their last 5 road games have produced goals at each end.
All things considered, backing Both Teams to Score looks like the way to go here.
