Sporting to get it right in Rio Maior

Sporting CP returned to winning ways with a much-changed line-up on Tuesday and should carry some positive momentum into their must-win league match at Casa Pia on Friday night.

The Lions were left to lick their wounds after back-to-back home defeats against LASK in the Champions League and Académico Viseu in the Primeira Liga last week. Rui Borges was true to his word and made 11 changes for the midweek cup clash against Maritimo and his second-string side just about did enough to book a spot in the final four.

Casa Pia are the latest banana skin in their path and they cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to maintain any hope of catching runaway leaders Porto. They are scoring goals but look brittle in defence with lapses in concentration and individual errors costing them too many times.

Geese can grab a goal

The Geese finished 16th in the table last season, narrowly avoiding relegation, and sit in the same spot right now after claiming just seven points from their first nine matches. They have the joint-worst scoring record in the division, but have registered in four of their last five matches.

That, coupled with Sporting’s defensive issues, makes the both teams to score option appeal at around even money. But a full-strength Lions side should get the job done with a bit to spare and they remain the play with the BTTS addendum.

Luis Suarez, who has scored five goals in his last four games for Sporting, should lead the way in a result which could be something in the region of 4-1 if the visitors are in the mood.
