Hibernian vs Falkirk Predictions

Hibernian missed out on reaching the Scottish Premiership playoff final last year after losing to this season’s champions Rangers, but they will have another shot at it this year against Scottish Championship runners up Falkirk. The winner of this two legged tie will go on to face Kilmarnock, with the winner of that spending next season in the Scottish top flight.

Hibernian beat Raith Rovers 2-0 on Saturday to overturn the one goal deficit from the away tie against the 4th place finishers. This win made it four wins, one draw, and one defeat in their last six outings. Unfortunately for them they missed out on the runners up spot on goal difference, meaning that it’s Falkirk who got to enjoy a much needed rest ahead of the play-off semi final.

Despite this minor setback this could turn into a very successful season for Hibs. Their penalty win over Dundee United granted them a place in the Scottish FA Cup Final with Rangers, so if they can get a cup win there and earn promotion this can be classed as an excellent season.

Falkirk sealed 2nd place with a 1-0 win over Greenock Morton on the first day of May, a result which made it two wins and three draws in their last five games. Before that they lost at home to Livingston, but that’s their only defeat in 13 outings in the Scottish Championship.

Hibernian will be looking for the win in this first leg because they know that their away form isn’t the best, but Falkirk are difficult to beat on the road. They have drawn each of their last five away games, but haven’t lost since a meeting with Rangers seven matches ago.

Hibernian have won four on the bounce in Edinburgh though and are also unbeaten in six at home, so this should be quite an interesting match up. Hibs have a fairly good defence too, but they don’t seem to be able to handle the better attacking sides in the league. They have conceded two goals in both of their recent fixtures against Rangers and Falkirk.

Falkirk have scored in each of their last four away games and in 13 of their last 15 outings on the road too, so a Both Teams to Score bet at 4/5 looks good to me. I’m going for a 2-2 correct score prediction as well, because Falkirk have drawn each of their last three away days 2-2 and the last meeting between the two at Easter Road ended 2-2 as well.
