Huddersfield vs Port Vale Predictions
You have to wonder how seriously Huddersfield are going to take the FA Cup, given they are in a strong position to secure a play-off berth and potentially a place in the Premier League, which would be massive for the club. However, even if they do rotate their side a bit here, Port Vale are unlikely to have enough about them to cause an upset.
The Terriers have really changed their approach this season and have sharpened up their act enormously at the back. They’ve only conceded more than one goal on one occasion at home this term with 67% of their games at the John Smith’s Stadium ending in victory. They haven’t been scoring that many goals though and are yet to win a game this season by more than a single goal so it seems unlikely that they will blow Port Vale away here. Huddersfield’s Championship matches average only 2.32 goals per game and they could be tempted to rest some of their most dangerous attacking players here, so they may have to work hard for their spot in Round 4.
Port Vale are in the wrong half of League One and aren’t likely to try anything too adventurous having progressed to this round thanks to two home wins to nil. They’ve only netted one goal in their last 4 matches though so their recent form suggests they won’t pose Huddersfield too many problems of their own. Vale have scored only 1.08 goals per game in League One this term and have failed to score in all of their last 5 away games in all competitions. They did though grind out 0-0 draws in 3 of those games so they have shown a bit of defensive resistance that suggests they could hold their own here for large portions of the game.
Overall though Huddersfield’s extra quality should ultimately shine through, particularly in the later stages when, if needs be, they could bring some fresh legs on to really go at the Vale defence. The Terriers have already racked up six 1-0 wins this season and backing Huddersfield to win 1-0 at 5/1 looks a good shout in the correct score market here.
