Huddersfield vs Reading Predictions

  • Huddersfield have won five of their last nine matches
  • Reading were relegated in midweek and have lost eight of their last nine away games
  • Only Cardiff (12) and Rotherham (12) have failed to score in more of their away games than Reading

Warnock can bow out in style

The last team Reading want to see is Huddersfield Town after the Terriers condemned the Royals to relegation to League One in midweek.

A 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Thursday night confirmed Huddersfield’s Championship status for another season at the expense of Reading, denying neutrals a winner-take-all showdown at the John Smith’s Stadium on the final day of the season.

Instead, the Royal make the long trip to West Yorkshire with nothing to play for and look ripe to be picked off by their hosts, who have seen their fortunes transformed under Neil Warnock.

Huddersfield were predicted to go down when Warnock took charge but a run of five wins in the last nine games under the experienced tactician, including some impressive success over the likes of Middlesbrough, Millwall and Sheffield United has kept them up

The Terriers have lost one of their last seven home games and while Warnock admits the staff and players have been celebrating survival in the lead up to the game, the feel-good factor at the club shouldn’t be underestimated.

Reading unlikely to buck away trend

Reading might point the finger of blame for relegation to their six-point deduction but have done themselves no favours with a 12-game winless run stretching back to March.

Their league-worst away record of 16 defeats from 22 road games also hasn’t helped their cause and Reading will be playing in the third tier for the first time since the 2003-04 season next term.

Only Rotherham and Cardiff have failed to score in more of their Championship away games this season than Reading and Huddersfield may shut out the Royals on route to a routine win.
