Reason For Hull City vs Luton Predictions

  • Hull have lost 14 of their last 18 Championship games
  • The Tigers have the league’s worst home record, having lost four of their last five at the KCOM
  • Hull have been beaten in all of their clashes at home with the bottom five this season
  • Luton have conceded once across their last four away games, winning two of their last three to nil

Trouble is only beginning for Hull

Hull’s relegation fears continue to grow, as they were humiliated by Wigan on Tuesday. The Tigers were mauled 8-0, going in 7-0 down at half-time. That came as a result of their mass exodus last month, when five players left the club including captain Eric Lichaj. With the club’s two top goalscorers being sold in January, the club have a depleted squad.

That’s an awful position to be in with the club sat in 22nd place in the table. The Tigers need a strong finish in order to pull themselves clear of trouble, but Saturday could see them dragged further into danger. The Tigers face a Luton side who are level on points with them, but the Hatters will see this as a chance to move out of the bottom three.

Tigers on losing streak

The loss to Wigan this week was Hull’s fourth consecutive defeat. They’ve had an awful 2020, losing 14 of their last 18 league games. That awful record has hit their home record, as they now have the fewest home points in the Championship. Losing their home support hasn’t helped matters, as their 1-0 loss to Millwall in their last game here was their fourth loss in five at home.

Hull have lost 12 times in 22 games at their own ground this term, while their record against the sides around them has been dire. The Tigers have failed to get themselves up for matches with their relegation rivals, losing all three of their home clashes with the bottom five. Given that they’re now weaker than they were at the half-way stage, we’re siding with the visitors in our predictions.

Luton can pile on Hull

The Hatters proved they could edge out their rivals in their last away trip, as they won 2-0 against Huddersfield. That win is part of a four-game unbeaten run on the road for Luton, who have kept three clean sheets in that time along with a 1-1 draw with leaders Leeds. The Hatters continued their solid run with a draw against QPR in the week, but a win here could really revitalise their campaign.

Luton have won two of their three trips since the restart, while their solid defence should help them see off a Hull side who have conceded in each of their last 18 games. Luton seem incredibly well priced despite Hull’s recent troubles, so we are going with an away win as our prediction for this encounter. Given Hull’s lack of firepower and Luton’s solid defending, we see the visitors shading this one 1-0.
