Hull City vs Chelsea Predictions

  • Chelsea managed to keep just three clean sheets in their last 15 outings.
  • Hull City have averaged 1.5 goals per 90 minutes at home this term.
  • Chelsea scored at least once in 14 of their 16 competitive away games this season.
  • Chelsea scored exactly two goals in seven of their last eight wins.

Chelsea to shuffle their pack?

Chelsea travel to take on Hull City in Saturday evening’s televised offering, hoping to avoid the embarrassment of being dumped out of the FA Cup by lower league opponents Hull City.

The Blues have plenty of frustration to exorcise this weekend having surrendered the lead twice on Tuesday evening at home to 10-man Arsenal, though their heavy Premier League workload could see them field an understrength team at the KCOM Stadium.

Chelsea have a rigorous top-flight schedule that includes impending successive fixtures against Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United – a tough run that could push Frank Lampard into resting some of his biggest stars at Hull.

Chelsea’s defensive struggles

Even with a full complement of players available, Lampard has been unable to find a defensive formula that works for Chelsea this term however, and after their lapses at the back on Tuesday, the Blues’ record reads a dismal three clean sheets in 15 games in all competitions.

Those numbers will be a source of motivation for Hull City manager Grant McCann and his players, and against a shuffled backline, the Tigers will back themselves to tear some holes.

Hull failed to register in each of their last two home matches against Nottingham Forest and Fulham, though their return in front of goal on their own patch has generally been decent this term.

The Tigers hit the net in eight of their 12 home games since the start of the campaign, averaging 1.5 goals per 90 minutes in total over that period.

We think Hull can harness the energy from the home crowd to score again against a notoriously porous, and almost certainly weakened Chelsea rearguard this weekend, though their chances of keeping the Premier League giants out at the other end feel incredibly slim.

Hull almost certain to concede

Hull managed to keep just two clean sheets in their last 11 games, while Chelsea have proved a potent attacking force on the road this season, scoring in all but two of the 16 matches they have contested away from Stamford Bridge since last summer.

With the aforementioned stats a factor and neither club looking watertight in their own third at present, we think the both teams to score market holds value for Saturday’s 4th Round tussle, though our correct score prediction forecasts an eventual 2-1 Chelsea win.

Even with some adjustments in personnel, the Blues’ superior quality should tell at the KCOM Stadium, and having scored exactly two goals in seven of their last eight victories, we’re tipping Chelsea to plunder two more on Saturday.
