Huracan are a solid side and although they are by no means one of the bigger clubs in the Buenos Aires area, they have enjoyed some considerable success over the past couple of years both at home and abroad. They have been particularly good in cup competitions winning the 2014 Copa Argentina and 2015 Supercopa Argentina and they were competitive in the group stages of the Libertadores last year losing just 1 game but ultimately finishing 3rd and going into the Copa Sudamericana.

They really thrived in that competition, going undefeated in 10 matches in the latter half of 2015 but ultimately missing out on the trophy by virtue of a penalty shoot-out defeat to Colombia’s Santa Fe. They only conceded 5 goals in those 10 games and have only played one game since that final so should be able to carry some of the momentum from that run in to this game.

Caracas were last involved in this competition two years ago but failed to score a goal in two matches against Argentine opposition in the form of Lanus and exited this stage 3-0 on aggregate.

They finished last season poorly in Venezuela, failing to win any of their final 4 games and haven’t won any of their pre-season friendlies so won’t travel to Buenos Aires with much confidence. Their overall away record in this competition is very poor particularly in Argentina and they are likely to come here with a very cautious mentality in an attempt to give themselves a chance in the 2nd leg on home soil.

Given Huracan’s strong defensive record, an away goal looks unlikely here so consider backing a home win to nil at 10/11.

Huracan are a club that is clearly on the up and the next step will be a real run in this competition and they should have enough to pick up a 2-0 win here which can be backed at 9/2.
