Iceland Draw No Bet

Reason for tip

Iceland ran France close in a 2-1 away defeat last month – a few days after Ukraine surrendered 2-0 to the French. Our Boys have won four of their last eight home games, losing only two. Meanwhile, Ukraine have failed to win four of their last five away games, losing two.

Iceland 2-1

Reason for tip

Iceland have the forward players to hurt Ukraine and showed it in their recent 5-0 win over Azerbaijan. They also scored against France before conceding an unlucky penalty and can bag a couple against a Ukraine side that were beaten 4-2 by Canada in the summer and conceded against Azerbaijan last month. Back a 2-1 win because Iceland rarely keep clean sheets.

Iceland could gain play-off revenge

Iceland will have revenge on their mind when they play host to Ukraine in World Cup qualifying on Friday. And a sold-out Laugardalsvöllur could propel the hosts to another good result as they aim to qualify for their second finals.

Our Boys began this campaign in the best way possible by dismissing a poor Azerbaijan side 5-0 on home turf. They then lost 2-1 to France in a game which was tougher for the hosts than many imagined.

Arnar Gunnlaugsson’s side play to their traditional strengths on set pieces, but are more happy to open the game up than some of their predecessors in the famous blue shirts. Further forward, they have some very good attacking players that are capable of playing in tight spaces and finishing off chances.

Ukraine are missing a coupole of key players

They lost 2-1 to Ukraine in Wroclaw when they last faced off in a play-off for Euro 2024 and it was a pretty open game considering what was at stake. Iceland took the lead thanks to a world-class strike from Albeet Gudmundsson and perhaps got caught looking for a second when Ukraine levelled.

They will fancy their chance of toppling Serhiy Rebrov’s side this time around as there will be no Mihailo Mudryk or Oleksandr Zinchenko,  two players who influenced the result last year, to torment them.

Iceland have won four, drawn two and lost two of their last eight home games. One of those ‘home’ defeats was played in Murcia anyway. They are a big price to get the three points here, but the Draw no Bet option also appeals given Ukraine have not won four of their last five away games, although it is now approaching four years since they last played on home soil.
