Portugal vs Republic Of Ireland Predictions
- Portugal have conceded in their last four games
- The hosts have shipped two or more goals in their last three at home
- The Republic of Ireland had a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Hungary last week
Jota to fire Portugal to victory
Portugal face their final warm-up game on Tuesday night as they look to recover from a 2-1 reverse to Croatia at the weekend. Roberto Martinez is set to name a strong side as he continues to test out different setups and they meet an Irish side fresh from a confidence-boosting win.
2024 has been far from easy for the Irish, especially after a difficult qualifying campaign. However, temporary boss John O’Shea made a case for a full-time appointment with a 2-1 victory over Hungary last week. Tuesday’s visit to Portugal is set to be tougher, but the Irish should get forward and look to exploit a Portuguese side that is on a shaky run.
Portugal have conceded in each of their last five games, shipping two goals in their last three at home. The hosts are likely to shuffle their pack later in the game, so the Irish should expect some openings over the course of this game.
However, it’s hard to see the visitors holding the hosts at bay, with this Portugal squad stacked with talent. Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is making a real push for a start at Euro 2024, having scored in both June friendlies. He has now scored in three of his last four for club and country, while netting four goals across his last five home matches for his nation.
Portugal should prove too strong going forward, so the value here lies with a home win and both teams to score.
