Inter Milan vs Genoa Predictions

Pacesetters Inter need to show fight

Inter Milan hold a commanding 10 point lead at the top of Serie A but they will be looking to make a bit of a statement against visitors Genoa this weekend nonetheless.

The Nerazzuri suffered a Champions League embarrassment in midweek as they lost 2-1 at home to Bodo/Glimt, losing the tie 5-1 on aggregate. They exited the competition meekly, while domestic rivals Atalanta produced a stunning fightback to oust Borussia Dortmund and Juventus came out of their defeat to Galatasaray with credit after falling just short in a comeback bid of their own.

Inter will feel they need to lay down a marker this weekend, and that could be bad news for visitors Genoa.

Il Grifone have been in solid form overall with just two defeats in their last nine but their away results have been less impressive, with two defeats and no wins in their last five trips.

The Nerazzurri won 2-1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season and with home advantage and a point to prove they can better that result on Saturday, so backing the hosts to cover a -1 handicap looks a solid pick.

Genoa haven’t conceded more than three goals in any Serie A game this season and Inter have failed to keep a clean sheet in five straight home games. As such, a 3-1 Inter win has a chance in the correct score market.

Cristian Chivu may opt to make some changes to his side but Federico Dimarco should keep his place and is a decent outside contender for a goal. Dimarco was probably Inter’s best player against Glimt and he’s been in good form in general lately. The 28-year-old had an assist against Lecce last week and also saw a goal of his own ruled out, and he has two goals in his last seven games in all competitions.
