Inverness CT vs Arbroath Predictions

  • Inverness CT have won their last four home games and their last four overall.
  • Arbroath have scored only two goals in their last six away Championship fixtures.
  • Arbroath have chopped and changed goalkeepers in recent weeks as both senior options have been error-prone.

Caley Jags have been purring in playoffs

Inverness Caledonian Thistle have the momentum and knowhow to draw first blood in their promotion play-off semi-final against Arbroath. The Red Lichties have had a terrific season, but it has already begun to unravel in recent weeks and defeat in the Highlands on Tuesday could be tough to overcome in the second leg.
Dick Campbell’s side led the table from the 18th to the 28th matchdays, but couldn’t quite overhaul Kilmarnock in a tense do-or-die battle for the title at Rugby Park a couple of weeks ago. A goal up and on course for the trophy with 12 minutes to go, they were again undone at a set-piece before a 90th-minute winner sent the hosts up at their expense.
Goalkeeping errors have become a recurring theme in the last two months of the season with Campbell chopping and changing his two senior custodians in vain. Neither are projecting any confidence and those nerves have transferred to a defence that had conceded just six in 14 Championship games between November and March.

Smokies were blown away by Inverness in March

Among the nine goals the Smokies have shipped in their last eight games were three at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in the last meeting between these clubs. Inverness have used that win as a springboard to find their best form in recent weeks and it was on display over the two legs of their  quarter-final win over Partick Thistle.

They can establish a lead to take to Gayfield Park in this game and another 3-0 victory is not beyond the realms of possibility if Arbroath’s defensive flaws are exposed again.
