Chelsea vs Leeds Predictions
- Each of Chelsea’s last six Premier League matches have featured fewer than three goals.
- Chelsea have kept a clean sheet in four of their last six league games.
- Leeds have won one of their 12 league away matches this season.
- Leeds ended a run of ten winless Premier League matches with a 1-0 win over Southampton last week
Pressure is building on Potter
A 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on Sunday has heightened speculation that Graham Potter’s time in the Chelsea hotseat may be limited, and that would only intensify is his team fail to beat struggling Leeds on Saturday.
The Blues have failed to score in three of their last four home matches and patience with the manager is wearing thin, although they have won six home matches this season and while they have lost three times at Stamford Bridge, two of those defeats were against Arsenal and Manchester City and both were by 1-0 scorelines.
A 1-0 loss to struggling Southampton in their last home game was a big blow and they have their work cut out to even claim a European spot for next season, but Potter will be hoping it will not be long before his much-changed squad find their feet.
Leeds need to get their act together
Leeds needed a win at Brentford on the final day of last season to avoid Premier League relegation and their supporters will hope they will not have such a sweat this time.
Former Watford manager Javi Gracia has taken the Elland Road helm and will be anxious to improve a record that has seen the White take a full return from just one of their 12 away league games this term.
A 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Southampton last week will have given them hope as it ended a ten-match winless run and they won’t lose much sleep about being knocked out of the Fa Cup against Fulham, but they need to start getting points if they are not going to go down to the wire as they did last team.
Don’t expect many goals at the Bridge
Their 2-0 loss at Tottenham now means Chelsea average less than a goal a game in this season’s Premier League and that is woefully inadequate for a team who expect to be challenging for the title every season.
Only four teams in the top flight have netted fewer goals and, on an afternoon when one goal might be enough, it would not be a huge surprise if they failed to create much again.
A 2-0 win over Bournemouth in December has been the only time in their last 15 league outings that they have scored more than one goal, while Leeds have not been freescoring either.
Just one of the Whites’ last six league games has featured more than two goals and it seems likely that anyone looking to watch a classic may be better off turning their attention elsewhere.
