Ipswich vs Bristol City Betting Tips

    Bristol City

      Tip Reasoning

The main reason for that is Bristol City’s really poor defensive record this season. They have conceded 17 goals so far at an average of over 2 per game. Only Rotherham can equal that record and not surprisingly the Millers are the only club below them in the league.

It is all a far cry from the champagne season that was their title win last year in the 3rd tier of English football. Goalscoring was never a problem and to a lesser extent that is still the case but there was always the fear that their defence would struggle to hold up at the higher level and so far that is how it has proved.

Steve Cotterill faces the difficult choice of either adapting their natural attacking style, which is something fellow newboys MK Dons appear to have done with limited success. Alternatively he can stick to his guns and keep attacking teams in the hope that eventually his defenders will adapt to football at this level.

The latter option is perhaps more likely in the short-term at least and we may not see anything radically different from them at Portman Road on Saturday. 4 of their 5 points have come on the road so they won’t fear this game but you have to fancy Ipswich’s extra class and experience to shine through.

The Tractor Boys seem to have bounced back from a couple of damaging defeats against fellow fast-starters Brighton and a crushing 5-1 loss at Reading. They’ve taken 4 points from their last 2 games against Leeds and Birmingham and come into this match in 5th place, which is exactly where they finished last season.

They should be able to use those results as a building block for another little run and certainly their improved defensive performances will have come as a relief having conceded 8 times in their previous 2 matches. They can probably afford to concede here and still win the game, such is the struggles Bristol City are going through at the back and they are good value to secure all the points at Evens.

In terms of a correct score, you could certainly see both teams scoring given these are 2 of the worst 5 defences in the league so far. Ipswich are always threatening going forward, especially at home and you feel they will be too hot for the visitors on the day so consider backing the hosts to win 3-1 at 16/1.
