Reason For Ipswich vs Burton Albion Predictions

  • Three or more goals have been scored in 73% of Burton’s away matches during the current campaign.
  • Burton have conceded two or more goals in ten of their 15 travelling games this term. They’ve scored two or more in nine.
  • Burton and Ipswich both rank inside the top nine when it comes to shots on target for this season.

Tractor Boys trailing

Promotion certs at the start of the campaign, Ipswich are no longer considered the powerhouses that they were back in August/September. In fact, they’ve gone from being one of the most likely title winners to a side that may not be good enough to secure a play-off place. As we approach a crucial time of the season, Paul Lambert’s men, who’re now a point shy of the top six, are the most out of form of those involved in the race for either the play-offs or the top two.

Recent defeats to teams in and around them don’t bode well for the Tractor Boys, who’re without a win against those currently in the top six all season.

This is another big test for Ipswich, who recently failed to cut the mustard against both Peterborough and Sunderland, conceding five goals and scoring just once in the process. Burton aren’t currently a top six team but they’re not easy to beat and are certainly moving in the right direction, so if Ipswich can rally and take all three points, then it would give them a huge boost ahead of a critical period.

Brewers toiling

Winless in five, Burton appear to be moving in the wrong direction, though we shouldn’t read too much into their recent run of form. After all, they’ve only lost one of those five and are certainly not easy to beat, as just one defeat, which came away against the league leaders, in their last eight suggests.

In recent times, we’ve seen that Nigel Clough’s men can score goals, but they’ve also shown a tendency to let teams in at the back, even if they do fight hard and avoid defeat on a regular basis. Burton have both scored twice and conceded twice in three of their last four, while they’ve been unable to stay away from goal-filled games on the road this term.

Burton have scored no shortage of goals away from home, notching no less than 25 in 15 matches. They’ve unfortunately conceded 27. Based on these numbers, the Brewers will fancy themselves to go to Portman Road and make headway, but they can’t be too confident of keeping their opponents at bay, especially as they’ve kept just one travelling clean sheet.

Goals, goals, goals

Given Burton’s apparent love for goals away from home, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ looks somewhat large in the betting, so much so that punters are advised to take advantage. For starters, ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ has yielded a profit in 73% of Burton’s travelling matches. Ipswich have seen less high-scoring games at home, though three or more have still be scored in 54% of their matches at Portman Road. In addition, three or more goals have been scored in seven of Burton’s nine away games against sides that currently reside in the top half. Throw in that both teams reside in the top nine for shots on target for this season and backing the goals to flow becomes more appealing. The appeal of the above selection grows further when we add that Burton rank as the second-best League 1 team in terms of shots on target for away, but the fourth-worst in terms of shots on target against.
