Trust Town to take care of business

Ipswich Town can be trusted to get a League One win against basement club Crewe Alexandra this weekend, but don’t expect the Railwaymen to be shunted off the tracks by Paul Cook’s team.

Town have won their last three home league games when odds-on, beating Fleetwood and Shrewsbury 2-1 each time and thrashing Doncaster 6-0.

So it may not be a totally relaxing Sunday afternoon for their backers at a short price, particularly given Alex’s record of staying in games. David Artell’s side have drawn three and lost seven on their travels, but earned a good point at Plymouth in September before giving Wycombe a scare on their own turf last month.

Crewe can keep it close

Crewe are rarely completely out of a contest until the final whistle sounds and could score against an Ipswich defence that has kept only two clean sheets this season. Our only hesitancy over backing them to notch in a home win is that Town’s two clean sheets have come in their last five at Portman Road and Crewe have not scored in two of their last four road trips.

It’s better to keep it simple and take the trustworthy Suffolk side to take the three points whichever way they come. The favoured correct score forecast here is for a 2-1 Town win because that has been the score in their last two home wins, which were both against teams currently sat alongside Crewe in the relegation zone.
