Tip Reasoning

  • At least three goals have been scored in seven of Ipswich’s eight home League One matches this season.
  • At least three goals have been scored in four of Oxford United’s six away league games.
  • Ipswich have won each of their last two home league games by the scoreline 2-1.

Goals the way forward in Suffolk

Ipswich Town are chasing a fourth straight home league win on Saturday, but opponents Oxford United are on the lookout for a third successive away victory.

Paul Cook’s Blues are back in the promotion hunt after an inconsistent start to the season and should have enough firepower to get the better of a U’s side that are yet to keep an away clean sheet this term. But the hosts look a touch short in the match odds – particularly as Oxford’s recent back-to-back away wins have come against teams sitting just above and below Ipswich in the table.

A safer approach could be to tackle the goals markets with all the signs pointing towards a few being scored at Portman Road on Saturday. Town hit six against Doncaster last month and seven of their eight home contests have now featured at least three goals.

Both sides prone to individual defensive errors

Oxford are regular scorers on the road, having hit eight in their six league trips of 2021-22 which follows a goal-laden finish to their last campaign when on the road. U’s boss Karl Robinson bemoaned individual errors that cost them a home win in the cup last weekend – the same issue that has haunted Ipswich since the start of the season.

This could go either way, but Ipswich’s home form has been better for longer than Oxford’s away resurgence so we will take them to get their third straight 2-1 home win in the correct score betting.
