Jamaica vs Venezuela Predictions
Jamaica have tough company in their group as they line up against Mexico and Uruguay over the next couple of weeks. This match is a must win for them if they are to stand a chance of qualifying from the group, as it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to take all three points off either of the other two.
They do have a chance of reaching the knockouts though, and they have some good results to look back on as motivation. They earned a draw against Uruguay in last year’s Copa America and beat current Copa America holders Chile in the warm up friendly for this one. They also have an in form and inspirational leader in the form of Premier League winning captain Wes Morgan.
Jamaica’s overall form isn’t the best though. They have picked up just four points from their opening four games in World Cup qualifying and find themselves in 3rd position, three adrift of Panama in 2nd and already six behind leaders Costa Rica. Their win against Chile at the end of May made it two wins, three defeats, and a draw in their last six outings.
Venezuela aren’t looking too good either. They are winless in six games and have only won one of their last 15 matches. They have proved difficult to beat recently though with four draws and two defeats in their six winless matches.
The majority of these have been against poorer quality opposition though. They drew at Peru first time out but since then have lost to Chile, drawn with Galicia and Panama, then lost to Costa Rica and, most recently, drew with Guatemala.
Their overall poor form has put their chances of qualifying for the World Cup in severe jeopardy. They are 10th in the qualifying table with just a single point earned from their six matches so far.
Salomon Rondon is a threat for them, but that’s about as far as their quality goes. There is no real talent to provide him with chances and Jamaica just look the better team overall, and Wes Morgan should be able to handle a Rondon that is starved of deliveries. I fancy Jamaica to get the win on Sunday, but you never know with defensive opposition so I’m backing a Jamaica Draw No Bet at 21/20 along with a 1-0 correct score prediction at 13/2.
