Old Lady can beat Europa League newcomers

Juventus would much rather be in the Champions League, but Luciano Spalletti’s side have a good chance of going deep in the Europa League this season. The Bianconeri make their first appearance in it in almost four years when they face NEC in Turin on Thursday.

The Dutch outfit are far less experienced in continental competitions, having dropped out of Champions League qualifying after a 6-1 aggregate loss to Bodo/Glimt in the play-off round. It’s been a turbulent few weeks in Nijmegen as NEC’s domestic form has dipped sharply.

Dick Schreuder’s men have claimed just seven points from six Eredivisie matches, and arrive in Turin amid a run of three games without a win, including defeats to Feyenoord (3‑1) and Cambuur (3‑0).

Spanish keeper missing for NEC

The Old Lady opened their Serie A season with wins over Frosinone (1‑0) and Parma (2‑0), followed by a solid 1‑1 draw against AC Milan. However, they suffered a setback last weekend in a chaotic 3‑2 defeat away to Sassuolo. Their form remains far stronger than that of their Dutch visitors and, despite injuries to Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Kephren Thuram, Weston McKennie and Andrea Cambiaso, they should still have enough to win here.

New arrivals Randal Kolo Muani, Kerim Alajbegovic, Jeremie Boga and Nick Woltemade give Spalletti enough firepower to control the match, while NEC’s absences, including the loss of first-choice keeper Gonzalo Crettaz to suspension, further tilt the balance in Juve’s favour.

Back the Italian side to win to nil and claim a similar 2-0 success to the one they achieved in a recent home win over Parma.
