Kazakhstan U21 vs England U21 Predictions

Kazakhstan U21’s hopes of qualifying from this UEFA Championship group realistically ended quite a while ago, but their 3-0 defeat to Switzerland U21 at the start of September finally ended those hopes mathematically.

That defeat saw Switzerland U21 go eight points clear of Kazakhstan U21 in second place, and with just six points left to play for, it is now totally out of their reach.

It was never likely to happen for them, and their results have shown that they still have a long way to go. They have lost four, drawn three and won one of their last eight in all competitions, only winning against Tajikistan U21 and drawing against Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Kyrgyzstan. Losses have come against Switzerland (twice), England, Norway and even Moldova.

England U21’s campaign is going a lot better though. Their 6-1 hammering of Norway U21 last time out saw Marcus Rashford bag a hat-trick. The young Manchester United striker has since been recalled to the senior squad, but with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Demarai Gray, Nathan Redmond and Jack Grealish in the squad England certainly aren’t short of attacking options.

This 6-1 win kept England U21 two points clear of Switzerland U21 at the top of the table, and with just two games left, it means that a win here could potentially settle the top spot for them.

England U21 are now unbeaten in seven matches since Italy U21 knocked them out of the finals in June. They have beaten United States U23, Norway U21, Kazakhstan U21 at home, Switzerland U21, and Norway U21 during that period, only dropping points away to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland.

They don’t perform quite as well on the road though. They have a good record of results but a lot of them have been narrow margins of victory. As such, each of their last five away days have seen fewer than three goals scored, as have six of Kazakhstan U21’s last seven home games. This makes odds of 5/4 for Under 2.5 Goals look a good value bet, so I’m backing that alongside a 1-0 win for England U21 at 7/1.
